Sculptra® results develop gradually as your body produces new collagen. Many patients begin noticing subtle improvements within 4–6 weeks, with results continuing to develop over the following months. A series of treatments is often recommended, and optimal results are typically seen around 6 months after treatment.

How Sculptra® Rebuilds Your Skin’s Foundation
Sculptra® contains poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA), a biocompatible, biodegradable material that works gradually to stimulate your body’s natural collagen production. As collagen levels increase, the skin’s underlying support structure is strengthened, helping restore facial volume, improve firmness and smoothness, and soften the appearance of wrinkles and folds.
Unlike traditional fillers that primarily provide immediate volume, Sculptra® takes a gradual approach—results develop over time for a subtle, natural-looking rejuvenation.

Results can vary for each individual because it depends on multiple factors: your body’s ability to form collagen and where the Sculptra is placed. Your results will continue to improve over the following 6 months and last for years!
Sculptra® may be ideal if your priority is gradual, overall facial rejuvenation and collagen stimulation with a subtle, progressive result. It’s often chosen for patients experiencing diffuse volume loss and changes in skin quality.
Radiesse® may be a better choice if you want more immediate structural support, contouring, and definition, with the added benefit of collagen stimulation. It can also be used in hyperdilute form when the goal is primarily improving skin quality rather than adding volume.
Neither is universally “better.” The right choice depends on your facial anatomy, degree of volume loss, skin quality, and desired outcome.
The amount of Sculptra® needed is individualized based on your age, degree of collagen and volume loss, facial anatomy, and aesthetic goals. Many treatment plans involve 1-2 vials per session, often with 2–3 sessions spaced several weeks apart. Patients with more significant volume loss may require additional product.
To help minimize bruising, swelling, and other temporary side effects:
- Avoid alcohol for 24–48 hours before treatment.
- If medically appropriate, avoid aspirin, ibuprofen, naproxen, and other medications or supplements that may increase bruising for several days before treatment. Do not stop prescribed medications without first speaking with your healthcare provider.
- Tell your provider about all medications, supplements, allergies, and previous injectable treatments.
- Arrive with a clean face and avoid applying makeup immediately before your appointment.
- Avoid elective dental work, vaccinations, or other facial procedures immediately around your treatment unless your provider recommends otherwise.
- Reschedule if you have an active infection, cold sore, significant skin irritation, or inflammation in the planned treatment area.
After Your Sculptra® Treatment
Sculptra® requires a little more aftercare than a traditional filler because proper massage is an important part of treatment.
The 5-5-5 Massage Method
Massage the treated areas for 5 minutes, 5 times per day, for 5 days, or follow the specific massage instructions provided by your Skin Lounge provider.
- Use clean hands and gentle but purposeful pressure.
- Follow the massage technique demonstrated by your provider.
For the First 24 Hours
- Avoid strenuous exercise.
- Avoid excessive heat, including saunas, hot tubs, and prolonged hot showers.
- Minimize significant sun or heat exposure.
- Avoid alcohol if you are experiencing significant swelling or bruising.
- Avoid excessive pressure or manipulation of the treated areas other than the recommended massage.
What to Expect
Mild swelling, redness, tenderness, bruising, or firmness at the injection sites can occur and typically improves over several days. You may initially notice some fullness from the treatment and swelling, but the true Sculptra® result develops gradually as your body produces new collagen.
Do not judge your final results immediately after treatment. Sculptra® is designed for gradual improvement, with results becoming more noticeable over the following weeks and months.
When to Contact Your Provider
If you experience increasing or severe pain, significant swelling, skin discoloration, blistering, drainage, fever, or any unexpected or worsening symptoms. Seek immediate medical attention for symptoms suggestive of a serious complication, such as sudden vision changes, severe headache, weakness, or difficulty speaking.
